I due Figaro is a comic opera that acts as a playful sequel to the events of Beaumarchais's famous Figaro trilogy (The Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro).
This production, set against the backdrop of the Count's tennis court, highlights the issues of class and gender hierarchies that are prevalent in the piece.
With a large chorus of staff members to attend to the Count and Countess, it was essential to create a live system to mark all duplicated pieces of the show.
8 chorus members, dressed identically in the first act of the production, and splitting into two groups to mimic our quarrelling lovers (Figaro and Susanna), meant we needed to track 52 matching items from conception to execution.
Using various formulas in Microsoft Excel gave me the ability to automatically collate precise numbers on each matching costume piece in real time.
I also had the opportunity to try my hand at graphic design. Using the family crest created by our scenic designer, Sarah Karl, we were looking to create a uniform for all staff members of the Almaviva home (tennis court).
